Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for an Australian Visitor Visa, you must meet certain criteria, which include:
- Genuine Temporary Entrant: You must demonstrate a sincere intention to visit Australia temporarily in accordance with the conditions written on your visitor visa, and return to your home country.
- Financial Sufficiency: You must have sufficient funds to cover your expenses during your stay in Australia, including accommodation, transport and daily living expenses.
Types of Australian Visitor Visas:
Australia has several types of Visitor Visas that can be tailored to the purpose of your visit, make sure you have chosen the right visa, because not all types of visitor visas are eligible for your home country.
Visit Australia as often as you want in a 12-month period. Stay up to 3 months each time you enter Australia.

Passport holders from the Country
Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Brunei, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong (SAR of China), Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Monaco, Norway, Portugal, Republic of San Marino, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Netherlands, United Kingdom—British Citizen, United Kingdom—British National (Overseas), United States of America, Vatican City.
With this visa, you are allowed to:
- Visiting Australia:
- As a tourist – for example, for sailing or vacation.
- Visit family or friends.
- Business Visit / Business Travel.
- You can also study or take short training programs up to a total of 3 months with this visa. If your main reason for travelling to Australia is to study, then you should apply for a student visa.
With this visa, you are prohibited from:
- Work for or provide services to an Australian-based business or organisation.
- Selling goods or services directly to the public.
If you are working or intend to work in Australia on this visa, your visa may be cancelled. You may be expelled or denied re-entry to Australia.
If you want to come to Australia for work, you need a visa that suits the work you want to do, you can choose a Work and Holiday visa (subclass 462) or if you want to do short-term work in Australia that is not included in business visitor activities, consider applying for a Temporary Work visa (subclass 400 / subclass 403).

This visa allows people to be in Australia for up to 72 hours before they have to leave Australia. Maritime Crew visa holders can use it to enter Australia by air to join non-military vessels.
Duration : 72 Hours
- Entering Australia and staying no more than 72 hours before departing by air or sea.
- Enter Australia by air to join non-military crew as a Maritime Crew visa holder (subclass 988).
With this visa you can be a tourist, business visitor or visiting family for 3, 6 or 12 months.
Duration : 3, 6 or 12 Months.
In general, Australian immigration provides for a period of stay of 3 months. You can stay for the period or date specified on the visa granting letter. Immigration authorities may grant a stay of up to 12 months in certain circumstances based on the data you provide (case by case). Things to consider when deciding on your stay:
- How long you want to stay in Australia?
- Why you want to live in Australia?
- Visiting family and/or friends.
- Be here as a tourist, for a cruise or for any purpose except business or medical care.
- You can also study or take short training programs up to a total of 3 months with this visa. If your main reason for travelling to Australia is to study, then you should apply for a student visa.
- Work for or provide services to an Australian-based business or organisation.
- Selling goods or services directly to the public.
This visa allows people aged 18 to 30 (inclusive) to have an extended holiday in Australia and work here to pay their trip.
Duration : 12 Months.
This visa is a temporary visa. You must enter Australia within 12 months of the date specified. Australian Immigration will not extend or delay this timeframe. The visa becomes active on the date you enter Australia.
Once you enter and the visa is activated, you can:
- Stay in Australia for up to 12 months.
- Leave and re-enter Australia as many times as you like in those 12 months.
- You can do any kind of work with this visa in short numbers in Australia to pay your holiday.
- Usually, you can only work in the same place for 6 months. From 1 July 2023 onwards, holders of this visa can work anywhere for up to 12 months if they worked for the same employer before 1 July 2023.
- Travel to and from Australia as many times as you wish doing selected subclass 462 work for 3 months to qualify for a second Work and Holiday visa.
- Study for up to 4 months.
- If your main purpose of stay is to study, consider a Student visa.
Documents that need to be prepared
Passport
Start by ensuring that your passport is valid for at least six months after your desired stay in Australia. Make photocopies of identification pages and relevant visas or stamps from previous international travel.
Visa Application Form
Complete the Visitor Visa application form, which can be easily accessed and completed online. Provide accurate and up-to-date information regarding your personal details, purpose of visit and desired length of stay.
Passport-sized Photographs
Attach two recent passport-size photographs that meet the specifications provided by the Australian Department of Home Affairs. Photos must be in color, with a plain white background, and taken within the last six months.
Proof of Financial Capacity
Demonstrate your ability to cover costs associated with your stay in Australia. This can be achieved by providing bank statements, proof of employment, or other relevant financial documents. Aim to demonstrate a stable financial situation to convince the authorities that you can sustain yourself during your visit.
Travel Itinerary
Prepare a detailed itinerary outlining your planned activities in Australia. Include information about accommodation reservations, flights, and any tours or events you plan to attend. This will show you the true purpose of your visit and help immigration officers assess the requested length of stay.
Health Insurance
Although not mandatory, it is highly recommended to have adequate health insurance coverage during your visit. Include a copy of your health insurance policy that clearly states the details of coverage, including medical emergencies and repatriation costs.
Proof of Ties to Your Home Country
To show your intention to return to your home country after your visit, provide documents showing your bond. This can include property ownership, employment contracts, or proof of family members living in your home country.
Additional Supporting Documents
Depending on your circumstances, you may need to provide additional documents. For example, if you’re visiting family or friends, include an invitation letter stating their relationship to you, their contact details and information about their status of residence in Australia.
